If GameBoy, Linux, and Vocaloid had babies: KDJ-ONE
It's got a gamepad on it, but it's not a GameBoy. It's got a keyboard on it, but it's not a synthesizer. It's running on Linux, but it's not a server. It's got a full-blown sequencer and it's not a tracker! It's KDJ-ONE!
Anyway, KDJ-ONE is a "handheld all-in-one music production device for beginners and professionals alike", according to the Kickstarter project description, which already has enough backers to be funded successfully in 4 days. It also looks like a vocaloid helped design this oriental tech masterpiece... or DaftPunk (I'm kidding, dont' google it).
The specifications are quite impressive and they shamelessly use Teenage Engineering's OP-1 to highlight the KDJ-ONE's superior specifications. The demo videos exemplify some common sequencing tasks and the use of the various controls, including the touch-screen.
Here are some of the KDJ-ONE specs:
- 1GHz CPU
- 512 MB RAM
- 4 GB internal storage
- 5-inch 800x480 display
- Touch Panel
- Velocity-enabled keyboard
- USB and MicroUSB connections
- Synthesizer
- Sequencer
- Piano Roll editing
- Sampler
- Extensive Automation
- Internet connectivity
- Win/Mac Application
- VSTi/AU Plugin
- SDK
You can get an early bird special KDJ-ONE for $395 right now at Kickstarter--the campaign will close on Tue, Jan 13, 2015.
